Connect Pinterest to Fondoo

Live4 min readUpdated

Connecting Pinterest lets your business publish Pins to a board you choose. Your AI agent can write Pin descriptions, pair them with your real images or videos, and schedule them for your approval. Fondoo publishes through its own Upload-Post account, so you do not need a Pinterest developer app.

What Fondoo can do with it

  • Publish Pins: a single image, a multi-image Pin of up to 5 images (20 MB or less each), or a single video. Pinterest does not take text-only posts.
  • Write descriptions: up to 800 characters. Web links become Fondoo tracked links with UTM tags.
  • Post to one board: every Pin needs a destination board ID (pinterest_board_id). You set it once per account.
  • Use your own media: register images and videos with register_social_media first (PNG, JPEG, WebP, MP4 or WebM, up to 20 MiB, confirmed as real). Fondoo does not generate images.
  • Draft and schedule: draft_social_posts (one AI post unit per idea), save_social_draft, schedule_social_posts.
  • Stats: get_social_stats returns the metrics Upload-Post reports for the Pin.
  • Plan: get_social_calendar, get_post, get_publishing_capacity.

What needs your approval:

  • By default every Pin needs the owner's approval. The agent's approve_social_posts call becomes a request in your approval queue.
  • Only the owner can set the board (configure_social_account) and change posting rules (update_distribution_rules).
  • Fondoo cannot delete a Pin once published. Delete it on Pinterest. cancel_post stops Pins that are not yet published.

Before you start

  • A Pinterest account, ideally a business account. Fondoo and Upload-Post do not state that a business account is required, but Pinterest's API is built around business accounts, so a business account is the safer choice. This may differ for your account. You can convert a personal account for free; it must be public first (Get a business account).
  • A public board. Upload-Post cannot post to secret boards. Create a board if needed (Create a board), and leave Keep this board secret off (Secret boards).
  • Real images or videos for each Pin.
  • Cost: Pinterest charges nothing for organic Pins. Posting is part of your Fondoo plan. Your plan sets how many social sets you can have (Builder and Launch: one, Growth: three, Agency: ten), with one account per network in each set.

Step by step: get your credentials

There is no key to copy. You sign in and approve access, then tell Fondoo which board to use.

  1. Open the authorization link Fondoo gives you (next section). It is an Upload-Post page branded with your business name.
  2. Choose Pinterest. Sign in on Pinterest's consent screen as the account that owns the board.
  3. Approve every requested permission. Board and Pin permissions are both needed.
  4. You return to the address Fondoo set.
  5. Find the board ID. A board ID is a long number, for example 987654321098765432. It is not the board name or the board's web address. Upload-Post can list your boards with their IDs (Get Pinterest Boards), but Fondoo does not show that list yet. Ask Fondoo support for the ID of the board you want; this step may differ for your account.

Connect it in Fondoo

(a) In the dashboard

  1. Open Connections → Available → Social → Pinterest.
  2. Click Connect Pinterest, then Connect securely. This opens a signed setup link valid for 15 minutes. It shows instructions only and carries no credentials.
  3. Ask your agent to create the authorization page, or call connect_social yourself.

(b) By asking your agent

Connect our Pinterest account for the main site. Send me the authorization link, then refresh and show me the account ID so I can set the board.

connect_service({provider:"pinterest", siteId:"YOUR-SITE-UUID"})
connect_social({siteId:"YOUR-SITE-UUID", provider:"upload_post", network:"pinterest",
                redirectUrl:"https://your-site.example/connected"})
  -> { connectionId, url }
refresh_social_accounts({siteId:"YOUR-SITE-UUID", connectionId:"CONNECTION-UUID"})
list_social_accounts({siteId:"YOUR-SITE-UUID"})

Then the owner sets the board on the Pinterest account:

configure_social_account({siteId:"YOUR-SITE-UUID", accountId:"ACCOUNT-UUID",
                          settings:{pinterest_board_id:"987654321098765432"}})

REST equivalent (owner credentials for the second call):

curl -X POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/configure_social_account \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FONDOO_OWNER_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"siteId":"YOUR-SITE-UUID","accountId":"ACCOUNT-UUID","settings":{"pinterest_board_id":"987654321098765432"}}'

configure_social_account replaces the account's settings, so include every setting you want to keep. Pinterest uses sign-in, so add_connection_key and test_connection do not apply.

Turn Pinterest on. The owner adds Pinterest to the posting rules with update_distribution_rules. The default format is text, which Pinterest cannot use, so set formats to image and/or video.

Test that it works

  1. list_social_accounts shows the Pinterest account.
  2. Register one real image with register_social_media.
  3. Save and schedule a Pin with format image, then approve it.
  4. After it is due, get_post should show published with a link. Check the Pin landed on the right board.

Troubleshooting

  • "Pinterest requires pinterest_board_id": no board is set. Set it with configure_social_account.
  • Secret board error (pinterest_secret_board): the board is secret. Make it public or choose another board.
  • "pinterest: unsupported post type": text-only or carousel format. Use image (one or more images) or video.
  • "pinterest: media limit exceeded": more than 5 images or an image over 20 MB.
  • "pinterest daily publishing cap reached": the default is 20 Pins per UTC day, matching Upload-Post's 20 per rolling 24 hours (upload limits).
  • Account missing after refresh: reauthorization is needed. Run connect_social again.

Limits, data and security

  • Limits: 800 characters, 5 images, 20 MB per image, 20 Pins per day. Upload-Post lists video up to 2 GB and 15 minutes. Near-duplicate posts within 48 hours are rejected.
  • Retries: five automatic attempts, then an alert.
  • What Fondoo stores: the account ID and name, the board ID setting, your Pins, schedules, results and stats. The Pinterest access token is held by Upload-Post. Fondoo never sees it.
  • Disconnect: remove the app's access in your Pinterest account settings (look for apps or security settings; labels vary), then run refresh_social_accounts to mark it inactive. Cancel pending Pins first with cancel_post.
