Connect Printify to Fondoo

apparelLive4 min readUpdated

Printify connects you to print providers who print your designs and ship them to customers. This connection lets your AI agent browse Printify's catalog, quote shipping and create products in your Printify shop. With your approval, it can also send customer orders to Printify. You need a Printify personal access token and your shop ID.

What Fondoo can do with it

Actions, used through connector_action:

  • Read: catalog.list (Printify blueprints), catalog.get (one blueprint), shipping.rates (shipping cost for an order), orders.get and tracking.get (order details, including shipments).
  • Write: products.create: a product in your Printify shop. You supply the blueprint, print provider, variants and print areas.
  • Money (owner approval for agents): orders.create.

How Printify handles new orders: API orders start as pending and on hold. By default, Printify approves them automatically after 24 hours and sends them to production. If you set order approval to manual in Printify, you must send them yourself (Printify API). Fondoo does not send orders to production for you. Printify charges your Printify Balance, or else your linked card or PayPal.

Fondoo's commerce tools also use the connection:

  • import_supplier_product: create a draft product in your Shopify or WooCommerce store from a Printify variant. Catalog prices can leave out print costs, so pass a supplierQuote with the real unit cost, shipping and a reference.
  • route_order_to_supplier: send a real store order to Printify. Fondoo fills address_to from the store order and sets a stable external_id. You supply line_items in supplierData, matching the order's variants and quantities. This always needs the owner's approval.
  • get_order_tracking: refresh tracking and give the customer a public tracking link.

Before you start

  • A Printify account and shop at printify.com. API access is free.
  • A payment method in Printify (Balance, card or PayPal), so orders can go into production.
  • Your order approval setting. Check it in Printify before you route orders, so you know whether they go to production automatically after 24 hours.

Step by step: get your credentials

  1. Sign in to Printify.
  2. Go to My Profile → Connections, or open https://printify.com/app/account/api directly.
  3. Generate a new personal access token. Name it Fondoo.
  4. Choose scopes. Fondoo needs:
    • shops.read: find your shop (used by the connection test).
    • catalog.read: browse blueprints.
    • products.read, products.write: create products.
    • orders.read, orders.write: quote shipping, create orders and read tracking. Add uploads.read/uploads.write only if you upload images to Printify yourself. Fondoo doesn't use them.
  5. Copy the token now. Printify shows it only right after you create it. Tokens are valid for one year.
  6. Find your shop ID. After connecting, ask your agent to read it, or call GET https://api.printify.com/v1/shops.json with the token. Each shop has an id, title and sales_channel (Printify API).

What goes where:

Fondoo fieldWhat to paste
apiKeythe personal access token
shopIdyour Printify shop ID (a number)

Connect it in Fondoo

In the dashboard

  1. Open Connections.
  2. Under Available, find Printify (in the Suppliers group) and click Use a key.
  3. Click Open secure key entry (single use, expires after 15 minutes). Paste the token and shop ID, then save.
  4. Click Check connection on the new card.

By asking your agent

Example prompt:

Connect my Printify shop. Send me a secure link for the token, then list a few hoodie blueprints.

The agent calls:

add_connection_key({ provider: "printify", siteId: "<site id>" }) // secure paste link
test_connection({ connectionId: "<id>" })
connector_action({ connectionId: "<id>", action: "catalog.list", input: {} })

For a help link only: connect_service({provider:"printify", siteId}) (signed, valid 15 minutes).

Over REST: POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/<operation> with Authorization: Bearer <your Fondoo API key> and the same JSON, for example POST /v1/ops/add_connection_key with {"provider":"printify","siteId":"<site id>"}.

Test that it works

  1. Run test_connection. It reads your shop list. All actions show as "unknown" until used. That's normal.
  2. Run catalog.get for one blueprint and shipping.rates for a sample address and line item.
  3. Create a test product (products.create) and check it in your Printify shop before publishing.

Troubleshooting

  • 401 Unauthorized. The token is wrong or more than a year old. Generate a new one and run rotate_connection_key.
  • 403 on an action. The token is missing that scope (for example orders.write). Generate a new token with the scopes above.
  • 404 on products or orders. The shopId is wrong. Check it with GET /v1/shops.json.
  • Order status payment-not-received. Printify couldn't charge you. Top up your Balance or update your card or PayPal in Printify, then retry from Printify.
  • "POD items and quantities must match the imported supplier variants...". The line_items in supplierData must match the store order's variants and quantities.
  • 429 Too Many Requests. Printify allows 600 requests per minute, 100 per minute on catalog endpoints, and 200 product publishes per 30 minutes. A 402 means a plan quota. Fondoo keeps to 60 actions per minute.

Limits, data and security

  • What Fondoo stores: the token, encrypted and never shown again. The shop ID is stored as a plain identifier. Fondoo also keeps import mappings, routed order IDs and tracking status.
  • Rotate: generate a new token in My Profile → Connections, run rotate_connection_key({connectionId}), then revoke the old token. Plan for this before the one-year expiry.
  • Disconnect: delete_connection({connectionId}) removes the stored token (owner approval for agents). Then revoke the token in Printify.
