Connect DataForSEO to Fondoo
DataForSEO sells search data through an API, billed per request. Connecting your own DataForSEO account lets your AI agent check how often people search for a keyword on Google, and how interest has trended over the past year. Fondoo uses this for product and keyword research. Each lookup is charged to your DataForSEO balance.
What Fondoo can do with it
| Action | What it returns | DataForSEO endpoint |
|---|---|---|
keywords.volume (read) | Monthly Google search volume for your keywords | POST /v3/keywords_data/google_ads/search_volume/live |
keywords.trends (read) | Google Trends interest over the past 12 months (web search) | POST /v3/keywords_data/google_trends/explore/live |
You can use them in two ways:
- Directly:
connector_action({connectionId, action:"keywords.volume", input:{keywords:["standing desk"], locationCode:2840, language:"en"}}).locationCodedefaults to 2840 (United States) andlanguagedefaults toen. Trends uses the samekeywordsandlocationCode. - In product research:
find_products({query, supplierConnectionId, dataConnectionId})runs one volume lookup and one trends lookup for your query. It combines them with supplier cost and shipping into a shortlist. Missing data stays "unknown" (null); Fondoo never invents a number.
Both actions only read data, so they do not need owner approval. They do cost money on your DataForSEO account, so ask your agent to tell you before running many lookups. Agents need Fondoo's commerce:read scope.
Before you start
- A DataForSEO account with funds. DataForSEO is pay-as-you-go with no subscription. The minimum top-up is $50, the balance does not expire, and new accounts get a $1 trial credit (pricing).
- Current prices per request ("task") at the time of writing:
- Google Ads search volume, Live: $0.09 per task, up to 1,000 keywords per task (Google Ads pricing).
- Google Trends Explore, Live: $0.011 per task, up to 5 keywords per task (Google Trends pricing).
find_productsrun therefore costs about $0.10. Check the pricing pages for current rates. - A Fondoo site to attach the connection to.
Step by step: get your credentials
DataForSEO uses an API login and an API password. The API password is not your account password: DataForSEO generates it automatically (authentication).
- Sign in to the DataForSEO dashboard.
- Open the API Access tab: https://app.dataforseo.com/api-access .
- Copy your API login, usually your account email.
- Copy your API password. Use the dashboard's option to reveal or send it if it is hidden.
DataForSEO credentials have no scopes. They give access to every API on your account and can spend your balance, so keep them private.
Connect it in Fondoo
In the dashboard:
- Open Connections → Available → Research → DataForSEO → Use a key → Open secure key entry.
- Enter
login(API login) andpassword(API password), then click Save connection securely. The link lasts 15 minutes and works once. - Click Check connection.
By asking your agent. For example:
"Connect DataForSEO so you can check search demand for product ideas."
The agent calls add_connection_key({provider:"dataforseo", siteId}) without fields and sends you the secure link. Do not type the API password into chat: credentials in fields trigger a chat-log warning. connect_service({provider:"dataforseo", siteId}) returns a signed 15-minute instruction link. If you ask for product research before connecting, Fondoo replies connection_required with that link. When you are done, the agent runs test_connection({connectionId}).
REST: POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/add_connection_key with Authorization: Bearer <your Fondoo key> and {"provider":"dataforseo","siteId":"<site UUID>"}.
Test that it works
test_connectioncallsGET /v3/appendix/user_data. This call is free and returns your account balance and limits (user data). Statusconnectedmeans the login and password work.- Ask your agent for the search volume of one keyword. That costs one Google Ads task.
- Check the spend in the DataForSEO dashboard.
Troubleshooting
DataForSEO usually answers with HTTP 200 and puts the real result in status_code, where 20000 means success (errors). In product research, any other code shows as "DataForSEO data unavailable".
- Status
invalid, HTTP 401 or code 40100. The login or API password is wrong. You may have used your account password instead of the API password. - Code 40200 or 40210 (payment required, insufficient funds). Top up your balance.
- Code 40201. Your account is paused. Contact DataForSEO.
- Code 40202 or 40209 (rate limits). Google Ads Live endpoints allow no more than 12 requests per minute per account (search volume live). The general limit is 30 simultaneous requests. Space out lookups.
- Code 40501 (invalid field). Check
locationCodeandlanguage. Trends accepts at most 5 keywords per task. - "Connector rate budget exhausted". Fondoo allows about 60 actions per minute per connection.
Limits, data and security
- What Fondoo stores: the encrypted login and password, status, last test and last use.
list_connectionsshows[redacted]. Research results are returned to the caller with their source and time; Fondoo does not resell or share them. - Rotate: if DataForSEO lets you regenerate the API password, do so, then call
rotate_connection_key({connectionId})without fields and enter the new values. - Disconnect:
delete_connection({connectionId})removes the credentials from Fondoo. Agents need your approval. Changing the API password in DataForSEO stops all further use.
