Connect Wix to Fondoo

Live4 min readUpdated

Wix is a website builder with a blog and a built-in CMS. Connecting it lets your AI agent write Wix Blog drafts and publish them, and read and write items in a Wix CMS collection, on the Wix site you already have. Fondoo connects with a Wix API key that you create in your Wix account.

What Fondoo can do with it

  • Blog draft posts: list, read, create and update. Fondoo converts your page's HTML into Wix's rich content format.
  • Publish a draft (posts.publish). This makes the post live.
  • CMS collection items (Wix Data): list (query), read, create and update. These go to the collection you set as collectionId.
  • Delete draft posts or collection items. This is destructive and needs your approval.

After you bind the connection with connect_cms, Fondoo's shared page tools use Wix Blog:

  • update_page saves a draft post.
  • publish_connected_page saves the draft and then publishes it.
  • map_cms_page links an existing post.
  • apply_seo_fixes can set the title, description, canonical and robots tags in the post's SEO settings, after the post has been mapped with map_cms_page.

Wix scheduling is not used. Fondoo keeps its own schedule and publishes at the chosen time.

Approval rules:

  • Publishing needs your approval unless you have turned on auto-publish.
  • Deletes need your approval.
  • Replacing an existing CMS binding needs your approval.

Before you start

  • Account owner or co-owner access. Only account owners and co-owners can create Wix API keys. A site-level call only works with a key from the account that owns the site (authentication methods).
  • The Wix Blog app installed on the site, for blog posts.
  • A CMS collection for item actions, if you want them. You need its collection ID.
  • Your public site URL, for example https://www.example.com. You give it to connect_cms as publicSiteUrl, because the key form has no URL field.
  • Wix API keys have no separate charge; your Wix plan's normal limits apply.

Step by step: get your credentials

  1. Open the API Keys Manager in your Wix account: https://manage.wix.com/account/api-keys (generate an API key).
  2. Select Generate API Key and give it a name such as Fondoo.
  3. Choose site access. Pick only the site you want Fondoo to manage, rather than all sites.
  4. Under permissions, tick:
    • Manage Blog, to create, update and publish draft posts (create draft post).
    • Read Data Items and Write Data Items, only if you want CMS collection items (insert data item).
The labels above come from Wix's API reference. The key form may group them differently.
  5. Generate the key. Wix may ask you to confirm with a code sent by email. Copy the key; it is shown only once.
  6. Find the site ID. Open the site's dashboard. The site ID is the long ID after /dashboard/ in the browser address.
  7. Optional memberId. Wix may need a site member to be named as a draft's author. If draft creation fails without one, supply the member ID of the author you want. This may differ for your account.
  8. Optional collectionId. Copy the ID of the CMS collection for item actions.

Connect it in Fondoo

In the dashboard:

  1. Open Connections → Available → Content → Wix → Use a key → Open secure key entry.
  2. Fill in apiKey and siteId, plus memberId and collectionId if you have them.
  3. Click Save connection securely. The link lasts 15 minutes and works once.
  4. Click Check connection.

By asking your agent. For example:

"Connect my Wix site so you can publish blog posts there."

The agent calls add_connection_key({provider:"wix", siteId}) without fields and sends you the secure link. Keys sent in fields carry a chat-log warning, so avoid pasting keys in chat. connect_service({provider:"wix", siteId}) gives a signed 15-minute instruction link. Afterwards:

test_connection({connectionId})
connect_cms({siteId, connectionId, settings:{publicSiteUrl:"https://www.example.com"}})

REST: POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/add_connection_key with Authorization: Bearer <your Fondoo key> and {"provider":"wix","siteId":"<site UUID>"}.

Test that it works

  1. test_connection lists one published blog post (GET /blog/v3/posts). Status connected means the key, site ID and blog access work. Other actions stay "unknown" until used.
  2. Ask your agent to create a test draft from a Fondoo page. It should appear under Blog → Drafts in your Wix dashboard.

Troubleshooting

  • Status invalid or "Provider request failed (401)". The key was deleted or copied incorrectly.
  • "Provider request failed (403)". A permission is missing (Manage Blog, or the Data Items permissions), the key does not include this site, or it belongs to a different Wix account.
  • The test fails on a site without a blog. The connection test reads blog posts. Install the Wix Blog app, or expect only collection item actions to work.
  • Draft creation fails asking for an author. Add memberId with rotate_connection_key.
  • "Supply settings.publicSiteUrl for the published CMS site". Add your public HTTPS URL to connect_cms.
  • "Provider request failed (429)". Wix is throttling requests. Wix does not publish a fixed limit for API keys; wait a minute and retry. Fondoo also limits each connection to about 60 actions per minute.

Limits, data and security

  • What Fondoo stores: encrypted key and IDs, status, last test, last use, and snapshots of posts it publishes (for undo). list_connections shows [redacted].
  • Rotate: generate a new key, call rotate_connection_key({connectionId}) without fields and paste the new key with the same site ID, then delete the old key in the API Keys Manager.
  • Disconnect: delete_connection({connectionId}) removes the stored key. Agents need your approval. Delete the key in the API Keys Manager too.
