Connect Stripe to Fondoo
This is the standard way to take payments on a Fondoo site. Fondoo creates a Stripe account for your business through Stripe Connect, and you finish Stripe's own sign-up form to verify your identity and add a bank account. After that, your AI agent can create products and prices, build checkout links, and track orders and subscriptions. The money goes to your Stripe account, not to Fondoo.
If you already have a Stripe account and want to use your own keys, see the Stripe (your own account) guide. If you only want Fondoo to read your existing Stripe sales, see Stripe revenue (read-only).
What Fondoo can do with it
Once your Stripe account is ready, Fondoo can:
- Set up your catalog: create and update products (
upsert_product), add prices (upsert_price), create percentage coupons (create_coupon), list products (list_products) and archive products (archive_product). In Stripe, prices can't be edited, so a price change creates a new price and retires the old one in Fondoo. - Sell: create a Stripe-hosted Checkout link (
create_checkout_link) and add a pricing block to a page (add_pricing_block). Creating a link never charges a card. Only the buyer can pay. - Deliver what was bought: attach a private download to a product (
attach_download), check who has paid access (get_entitlements) and validate license keys (validate_license_key). - Track: list orders with masked customer emails (
list_orders) and record paid checkouts, renewals, failed payments, refunds and disputes as they happen. - Customer self-service: create a Stripe customer portal link for a known customer (
get_customer_portal_link). - Tax: turn on Stripe automatic tax for a site (
configure_payment_tax, owner only) after you activate tax in your Stripe Dashboard.
What needs your approval: if your agent creates or changes products, prices or coupons in live mode, you must approve it first. Agents cannot refund, pay out, transfer money or answer disputes. You do those yourself in the Stripe Dashboard.
Fees: Stripe charges its normal processing fees directly to your account (see Stripe pricing). On checkouts Fondoo creates, Fondoo also takes a small platform fee from each payment. get_payments_status shows the exact percentage as feePercent. It is 1% on the current plans.
Before you start
- A Fondoo site. You need its site ID (the agent can look it up).
- Live payments need a paid Fondoo plan. Test mode works on any plan. Live mode returns "Live payments require a paid workspace plan" until you upgrade.
- Your business details. Stripe will ask for your legal name, address, a contact email and the country your business is in (two-letter code such as
USorGB). It may also ask for an ID document. Have your bank account details ready for payouts. - A web browser. Stripe's onboarding form opens in a browser. It does not work inside embedded app web views (Stripe hosted onboarding).
You do not need to create Stripe API keys for this option.
Step by step: get your credentials
There are no keys to copy. Instead, you complete Stripe's onboarding form:
- Ask Fondoo for an onboarding link (see the next section). Fondoo creates a Stripe account for your site and returns a link to Stripe.
- Open the link. It goes to a Stripe-hosted page, not a Fondoo page.
- Check or fill in your business type, business details and contact details.
- Verify your identity. Stripe may ask you to upload an ID document.
- Add the bank account where Stripe should send payouts.
- Accept Stripe's Connect service agreement and submit.
- Stripe sends you back to the return URL you gave Fondoo.
The link is single-use and expires after a short time. If it expires, or a chat app "previews" it and uses it up, Stripe sends you to the refresh URL. Then simply ask Fondoo for a new link (Stripe docs).
Your account gets the full Stripe Dashboard, so you can sign in at dashboard.stripe.com to see payments, issue refunds and manage payouts.
Connect it in Fondoo
In the dashboard
- Open Money in your Fondoo dashboard.
- In the Payouts card, click Connect Stripe (it says Continue Stripe setup if you started before).
- Enter your Business country code (for example
US) and click Get secure setup link. - Click Continue securely and complete Stripe onboarding. Stripe sends you back to the Money page.
The dashboard uses your account email. It picks live mode if your plan is paid, and test mode if it isn't. The Open Stripe button takes you to your Stripe Dashboard.
You can also start from Connections: under Available, find Stripe in the Payments group and click Connect Stripe for step-by-step instructions.
By asking your agent
Example prompt:
Set up Stripe payments for my site. My business is in the US and my email is
. Start in test mode.
The agent will call:
get_stripe_onboarding_link({
siteId: "<your site id>",
mode: "test",
email: "<your email>",
country: "US",
refreshUrl: "https://<your page to restart>",
returnUrl: "https://<your page after onboarding>"
})If the agent only needs to send you instructions, it can call connect_service({provider:"stripe", siteId}). That returns a signed link that is valid for 15 minutes. The link only shows instructions. It does not grant access.
If you run several sites for the same legal business, pass existingAccountSiteId to reuse that site's Stripe account. Fondoo rejects links across workspaces.
Over REST, every operation has the same shape:
POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/get_stripe_onboarding_link
Authorization: Bearer <your Fondoo API key>
Content-Type: application/json
{"siteId":"<site id>","mode":"test","email":"<your email>","country":"US","refreshUrl":"https://...","returnUrl":"https://..."}add_connection_key and test_connection are not used for this provider, because Fondoo never handles a Stripe key for you here.
Webhooks
You do not need to set up webhooks. Fondoo runs Stripe Connect webhooks for all connected accounts. Fondoo checks the Stripe-Signature header on every event before using it. It records paid checkouts, subscription changes, paid and failed invoices, refunds and disputes. It also watches for account updates, so Fondoo knows when Stripe asks you for more information.
Test that it works
- Ask your agent: "What's my payments status?" It calls
get_payments_status({siteId, mode:"test"}). - Look for
connected: trueandchargesEnabled: true. IfchargesEnabledis false, Stripe still needs information from you. Open a new onboarding link and finish the form. - Create a test product: "Create a $10 test product called Sample." (
upsert_productwith aprice). - Create a checkout link (
create_checkout_link) and pay with a Stripe test card such as4242 4242 4242 4242(Stripe testing). - Check
list_orders({siteId, mode:"test"})for the new order.
Repeat the onboarding in live mode when you are ready to take real payments. Test and live are separate Stripe accounts in Fondoo.
Troubleshooting
- "Live payments require a paid workspace plan". Upgrade your Fondoo plan, or use
mode:"test"for now. - The onboarding link says it expired. Links are single-use and short-lived. Ask for a new one. Don't paste the link into a chat app that previews links.
chargesEnabledis false. Stripe still needs details or documents. Open a new onboarding link, or check the notices in your Stripe Dashboard.- "Revenue-only connection cannot onboard". This site and mode already has a read-only Stripe key (
stripe_revenuesetup). Use another mode, or contact Fondoo support to remove the read-only connection first. - "Activate tax settings in your Stripe Dashboard before enabling automatic tax". Turn on Stripe Tax and add your tax registrations in Stripe first, then retry
configure_payment_tax. - The agent's action shows "pending approval". Live catalog changes need your approval. Open the approval link and approve or reject it.
Limits, data and security
- Rate limits: Stripe allows about 100 requests per second in live mode and 25 in sandboxes (Stripe rate limits). Normal Fondoo use stays far below this.
- What Fondoo stores: your Stripe account ID, its mode, your products and prices, checkout sessions and orders. Customer emails are masked in order lists. Fondoo stores no card numbers. Stripe handles all card data.
- No keys to rotate. Fondoo's platform keys are managed by Fondoo.
- To stop payments: archive products with
archive_product, or close or restrict your account in the Stripe Dashboard. Existing subscriptions stay in Stripe until you cancel them there.
