Connect Plausible to Fondoo
Plausible is a privacy-friendly web analytics tool. Fondoo can add the Plausible script to your published pages, record server-side pageviews and goal events, and let your agent read your Plausible stats. Reading stats needs a Plausible Stats API key; the rest does not.
What Fondoo can do with it
1. The browser script (public, not a secret). Your Plausible site domain is saved with configure_site_pixels. Fondoo injects the Plausible script on the next publish (previews do not get it). Fondoo uses Plausible's older /js/script.js with a data-domain attribute, not the per-site snippet Plausible introduced in October 2025. Plausible's current docs describe only the newer snippet, so check after publishing that visits arrive.
2. The server connector. Saved with add_connection_key. It runs these actions through connector_action:
reports.query(read): a Stats API v2 query with up to 10 metrics, 5 dimensions, a date range, simple filters and paging. NeedsapiKey.sites.get(read): your site's domain, time zone and custom properties. NeedsapiKey.events.send(write): record one pageview or goal event through Plausible's Events API. Needs no key, but needs the visitor's User-Agent and IP, the page URL, andconsentGranted:true.
Fondoo cannot create or change Plausible sites. No action needs owner approval. Agents need analytics:read for reads and analytics:write for events.send. Deleting the connection needs owner approval.
Before you start
- Plausible is paid. There is no free plan, only a 30-day trial. Plans are Starter, Growth, Business and Enterprise, priced by monthly pageviews; at 10k pageviews they start at $9, $14 and $19 a month (pricing).
- The Stats API is a Business plan feature (also Enterprise) (Stats API). On Starter or Growth you can use the script and server events, but not reports.
- Your site must already be added in Plausible.
- Only Owner, Admin, Editor or Billing roles can create an API key for a team.
- Self-hosted Plausible works only at a domain root, with no port or path.
Step by step: get your credentials
Site domain (siteId in the connector, domain in configure_site_pixels, required)
- Use the domain exactly as it appears in Plausible, for example
example.com, in lowercase. - Note: the connector field
siteIdmeans your Plausible domain. It is not your Fondoo site ID.
Stats API key (apiKey, optional, for reports)
- In Plausible, pick the team that owns the site in the top-right menu.
- Click your account name, open settings, then API Keys.
- Click New API Key and choose Stats API. This key is read-only.
- Copy the key now. Plausible shows it only once. Then click Create API Key.
Self-hosted URL (baseUrl, optional)
If you self-host, enter your Plausible origin, for example https://plausible.example.com. For the browser script, pass the same origin as scriptHost.
Goals for server events
Plausible only shows a custom event once a goal with the same name exists. In your site settings open Goals, click + Add goal, choose Custom event, and enter the name (goals). Names must match exactly, including capitals. Fondoo sends these names: Purchase, Signup, Lead, Begin Checkout, Add To Cart and Login. For revenue on Purchase, turn on Enable Revenue Tracking on that goal and pick a base currency; revenue is a Business plan feature (revenue).
Connect it in Fondoo
a. In the dashboard. Go to Connections → Connect a tool. Type "Plausible" in Find a tool. On the card click Use a key, then Open secure key entry. Fill in siteId, and apiKey and baseUrl if needed. Click Save connection securely. The page expires after 15 minutes and works once.
The dashboard has no screen for the browser script; use your agent or REST.
b. By asking your agent. Example prompt: "Add Plausible for example.com to my site and give me a secure link for my Plausible Stats API key."
The agent calls:
configure_site_pixels({siteId, plausible: {domain: "example.com"}})
add_connection_key({provider: "plausible", siteId})The second call returns a one-use securePasteUrl; never paste the key into chat. Then publish_site injects the script.
REST: the same calls are POST /v1/ops/configure_site_pixels and POST /v1/ops/add_connection_key, with the call input as the JSON body:
curl -X POST https://api.getfondoo.com/v1/ops/add_connection_key \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $FONDOO_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"provider":"plausible","siteId":"YOUR-FONDOO-SITE-ID"}'Consent. requireConsentForPixels defaults to false, because Fondoo has no per-site region setting. When it is on, no third-party script loads until your banner calls window.fondooConsent.grant(). Global Privacy Control is always honored. The window.fondooPixel.track helper does not send events to Plausible.
No deduplication. Plausible has no event ID check and records events when it receives them. Send each action from the browser or the server, never both.
Test that it works
- Run
test_connection({connectionId}). With an API key, Fondoo runs a tiny Stats API query for today's visitors. Success showsconnectedwithreports.queryconfirmed. Without a key the status islimited. - Ask for a report:
connector_action({connectionId, action: "reports.query", input: {metrics: ["visitors", "pageviews"], dateRange: "7d"}}). - After publishing, visit your site and check that the visit appears on your Plausible dashboard.
Troubleshooting
- "Credential fields do not match the connector manifest": the domain has capitals,
https://or a path. Use the bare domain. - Test shows
invalid: the key is wrong or revoked, the domain does not match Plausible, or your plan has no Stats API access. - "This capability needs the Stats API key (apiKey)": add a key with
rotate_connection_keyand re-enter all fields. - "Plausible events need the visitor userAgent and clientIp": pass the real visitor values. Plausible's bot filter drops events sent with a server IP.
- Server events do not appear: Plausible answers 202 even when it drops an event. Check the goal name and that the event is less than 5 minutes old (Fondoo's limit).
- "Self-hosted Plausible must be served from a domain root": remove any path from
baseUrl.
Limits, data and security
- Plausible API keys allow 600 requests per hour by default; Plausible can raise this on request. Fondoo applies the same budget to server events.
- Events accept up to 30 custom properties. Fondoo forwards the visitor IP to Plausible only in the
X-Forwarded-Forheader and never sends the API key with events. sites.getuses Plausible's read-only Sites API endpoint, which works with a Stats API key (Sites API).- Credentials are encrypted in Fondoo's connector vault.
list_connectionsshows only a masked value. A rotation reminder is due after 90 days unless you setrotateAfter. - To rotate, run
rotate_connection_key({connectionId})and re-enter every field. To disconnect, rundelete_connection(needs owner approval), then revoke the key under API Keys in Plausible. - To remove the script, call
configure_site_pixels({siteId, plausible: null})and publish again. - This connector does not use webhooks.
- These may differ for your account: the exact API key format, the allowed characters in custom property names, whether
sites.getworks on your plan, and whether the older script keeps working.
